DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY is a Federal Category under which children may be eligible for Special Education Services.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) defines Developmental Disability as a child (ages 3-to-6-years) who is experiencing developmental delays, as measured by appropriate diagnostic instruments and procedures, in one or more of the following areas: physical, cognitive, communication, social, emotional or adaptive development, and who needs special education and related services.
